History of Haven on Garland
A haven is “a place of safety or refuge” and we want all to feel a sense of safety and wholeness. We started Haven on Garland in the mutual desire to live out a radical hospitality full of welcome and love.
It was the call of God upon our lives in wanting to have a home that would be a welcome haven for those in need. With the home in the historic Garland Hill neighborhood of Lynchburg, VA, the dream of Haven on Garland gained its name.
Haven on Garland is operated out of the historic Tabb-Slaughter-Diggs home in Garland Hill, a house that has a deep history of division in this past, that is now being reclaimed and rewritten as a home that is truly welcoming to all.

Our Current Program
While the original goal of Haven on Garland was wider in scope, the opportunity to host Afghan university students arose and that’s where we have focused.
Through various connections, other non-profits and a thousand miracles, Haven on Garland is currently supporting six Afghan young women as they study at a local university, with the hope and potential of others also coming and living at and supported by Haven on Garland.
